We have worked for more than a year with CATS WITH A HEART- an initiative that aims at raising awareness and funds to end child exploitation in the fashion industry through the making and selling of cuddly plush cats and t-shirts. Created with this challenging endeavor in mind they also pursue other social responsibilities such as reducing landfill waste from fashion brands and creating jobs for women in vulnerable situations ensuring all CWAH products are manufactured under fair and safe working conditions.
To achieve the goal of helping children in need CWAH donates 50% of the proceeds to reputable organizations working against child labor, such as Save the Children Mexico, Save the Children USA, Club de Niños y Niñas de México and Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA).
The Giving Back Collection, is perhaps their proudest one. These cats are made out of fabrics donated by designers and fashion brands. All the collaborators are socially conscious brands based in London, Los Angeles, New York, Mexico City and all over the world. They are committed to the great cause of ending child exploitation and providing a better future for millions of children in need around the world. Among those long-term supporters are Reformation, Emilio de la Morena, Mara Hoffman and Sandra Weil. By repurposing remnants fabrics they also reduce landfill waste.
WHERE THEY PRODUCE
CWAH collaborates with La Cana, Prison Art and Pro Mujeres Cautivas to provide remunerated jobs and professional skills to vulnerable women. The programs and workshops help the reinsertion into society and the reduction of crime recurrence.
The cats are made in three different Mexican prisons, Santa Martha Acatitla, Tepepan, both in Mexico City, and Cereso de Tulancingo de Bravo, in Hidalgo. CWAH t-shirts are hand-embroidered at Chiconautla-Ecatepec, State of Mexico.
Cats represent loving yet independent creatures. Their aim is to make children in need feel loved and protected as the basis for their education and development to become independent adults. By creating job opportunities for women at risk of social exclusion CWAH supports these women to become self-reliant and confident.
